Illegal slaughterhouses polluting drinking water in Meerut: NHRC

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has ordered the closure of illegal slaughterhouses and furnaces used in extraction of animal bone fat in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh because the blood and animal waste flushed into open drains has started polluting drinking water supply system.
Euro MPs today voted overwhelmingly to take animal-tested cosmetics off the market throughout Europe.

The move defies a European Commission warning that an EU sales ban would breach World Trade Organisation (WTO) rules.

And the MEPs have warned that if EU governments try to overturn their decision, they will use their newly-increased powers to force the measure through.
